RUINS

by mhz

Ruins is a highly visual dance performance that explores how we can find a way through pain, damage, and isolation, both personally and globally, by focusing on being open to each other, our natural environment and co-evolving with other living entities.

Inspired by Donna Haraway’s eco-feminist writing ‘Staying With the Trouble, Making kin in the Chthulucene’; the performance explores rupture, adaptation, and togetherness across species. In the midst of enduring ecological harms and navigating emotional turmoil we can reclaim new ways of being that allow us not only to live in ruins, but to live in ruins well together.

Set inside a mesmerizing video cube three critters shapeshift, squirm and burrow through the undergrowth of their souls. Experimental, ritualistic and sensual, RUINS is co-created with celebrated Scotland-based movement artists Philip Alexander, Rita Hu and Suzi Cunningham. With a fluid and hypnotic soundtrack from Cucina Povera with additional composition by Jamie Grier, the performance is a visionary coming together of artistic minds to create something primal and prophetic.
