STRUT Kidz

By MHZ

Building on the acclaimed premiere of STRUT as part of Tramway's Dance International Glasgow 2021, local theatre makers MHz returned to bring a children’s version of the show to Govanhill in November 2022. This time around they joined forces with the pupils of Cuthbertson Primary School where MHz and dance artists Nancy Jacinto and Jennifer Taggart delivered 10 weeks of creative dance workshops.

STRUT Kids was designed as a procession and dance party partnered with a celebratory light show for audiences to encounter from the playground and school hall. Children from the school were invited to show off their personal choreographies harnessing the power of freestyle dance as a universal expression of freedom and joy.

In an afternoon of family fun, the playground and school hall then hosted dance performances, interactive games, a special appearance from STRUT performer Joshua Macmillan.

This project is part of Tramway Beyond Walls; an ongoing strand of contemporary performance, visual art and creative participation which aims to engage with local audiences outside of the physical limits of our building.

STRUT was originally supported by Creative Scotland, Tramway, Govanhill Baths Community Trust, Pollokshields Bowling Green, RIG Arts, Evolve Project, Williamsburgh Housing Association and One Ren.

Produced by Feral.
